High achiever Tayf is one of the last direct descendants of Amer and Djelmila, a daughter of Manganate, who enjoyed a remarkable career on the track. A winner of an international race at Leicester on her debut, she won ten races, including some of the most prestigious events in the world like the Abu Dhabi Derby for Purebred Arabians at Chantilly, the Al Maktoum Challenge R2 and R3 at Nad Al Sheba, the Hatta International Stakes at Newbury and many others….
She retired to stud in 2001 to become a broodmare and her first foal was no other than the highly decorated Majd Al Arab, author of 5 Group 1 PA victories and Tayf’s full brother.
Tayf was born at the Grand Courgeon Stud in 2012 and four years later started his career in Doha. That same year, the four-year-old travelled to Europe where he won the Group 3 PA Prix Dormane and was the runner-up of the Group 1 PA Qatar Derby des pur-sang arabes de 4 ans at Chantilly and of the The President of the UAE Cup – UK Derby at Doncaster. He also finished 3rd in the Group 1 PA Qatar Arabian World Cup at Chantilly. Upon his return to Doha, he then lifted the Group 2 PA Qatar Derby for four-year-olds.
His five-year-old season saw him finish second twice in the most sought-after events in Qatar, notably the Group 1 PA HH The Emir’s Sword and the Qatar Gold Sword. Back in Europe, he lifted the very prestigious Group 1 PA Qatar International Stakes at Goodwood, UK. Following a 2018 season where he continuously knocked on the doors of the major events, he was back on the podium in 2019 when at the age of seven, he won the Group 1 PA The President of the UAE Cup – Coupe d’Europe des chevaux arabes at ParisLongchamp. He followed up this success with a second place in the Group 1 PA Qatar International Stakes at Goodwood.
His finest hour though came in 2020, when at the age of 8 and following an encouraging start of the season in Doha, he won the Group 1 PA Qatar Arabian World Cup at ParisLongchamp. It was his fourth attempt in this important race and he beat a high class field.
In 2021, the now nine-year-old lifted the Qatar Gold Sword, the final Group 1 PA race of the Qatari season, before returning to Goodwood, where this time round he finished third in the Qatar International Stakes. His final start of his outstanding career was in the Qatar Arabian World Cup, where after a fierce battle, he secured himself a very good third place.
